Recreation in Aston was created from the need for facilities for the teenagers in the Village. When investigating these issues, it soon became apparent that there was a wider need for facilities for all. Aston is an active community, with many groups, all vying for rooms and space. In addition, it also became clear that with the growing number of new houses, there was an increasing need for Sports facilities. The present Playing Field is a fine asset, but despite the best efforts of the Sports Club and the Parish Council, the Pavilion is in need of modernizing and re-fitting.
At a Public Meeting, Recreation in Aston enjoyed support from the Village to go forward and generate detailed proposals. A questionnaire was sent to at the houses in the village and the data from that formed the basis of a Sports Development Plan. This in essence dictates the requirements of any building that is planned. The cost of the facility will be such that Lottery Funding will be essential and all the effort is now focused on making that application. The Lottery however will only provide matched funding ( we have to provide as much as the Lottery gives). This means that the requirement for fund raising is large.
Our first phase has provided a small practice basketball court on the Playing Field. This has received the support of Lottery funding, the Parish Council. local business, English Basketball Association and many sports organisations.
